Located just 15 minutes from Banff, Sunshine Village is one of the largest ski resorts in Canada, with over 3,300 acres of skiable terrain. The highest elevation is 8,954 ft. and the average natural snowfall is 33 ft. Skiing lasts from mid november into late May. Sunshine Village is very historic, dating back to 1936.
The resort straddles the Continental Divide, with some of the ski trails in Alberta and some in British Columbia. Development is restricted in the Banff National Park and there are no sprawling condos at the base of any of the 3 Banff area ski resorts. This resort is like stepping back in time when skiing was less commercialized.
One interesting feature of the Sunshine Inn Resort is the Snowhost Program, where a team of ambassadors from Sunshine Village take skiers/riders out on tours using blue runs and show them how to access to this enormous ski area.
